GOING THE EXTRA MILE! Each month of the 2,600+ employees of Wicomico County Public Schools, we recognize three employees for going above and beyond their normal duties as Extra Mile Recipients. We chose one employee from the Academics Division, Business and Operations, and Student & Family Services. Congratulations to November's Extra Mile Recipients!
ANDREA MILLER - Administrative Associate at Parkside High School CTE
Andrea Miller embodies the very definition of the Extra Mile Award. She is the heart of Parkside CTE—someone who not only ensures our programs run smoothly but also lifts the spirits of everyone around her each and every day.
Andrea approaches every challenge with positivity and professionalism. Whether greeting parents, assisting students, or supporting staff, she does so with a genuine smile and unwavering patience. Her exceptional customer service, attention to detail, and great pride in our school make her an indispensable part of the RAMFAM.
Andrea constantly looks for ways to make Parkside CTE better. She anticipates needs before anyone even asks, brings creative ideas to improve systems and communication, and works tirelessly to make sure everything gets done—often behind the scenes and without recognition.
Simply put, Parkside CTE could not operate at the level it does without Andrea Miller. Her dedication, professionalism, and heart exemplify what it means to go the extra mile. She is truly one of the key reasons our school community thrives, and she is more than deserving of this honor.
AMBER SINGLETON - Athletics Trainer at Mardela Middle & High
Amber Singleton exemplifies what it means to go the extra mile for WCPS. She stepped up in a major way to assist with middle school intramural culminating events, providing professional care and support to the student-athletes of all 5 middle schools. In addition, she took on the enormous task of organizing and coordinating the Weight Certification process for the entire Bayside Wrestling community; an effort that ensured athletes from 15 different schools were properly certified to safely and legally compete this winter. Her efficiency, attention to detail, and ability to manage a high-volume, high-stakes process reflect an exceptional level of expertise and professionalism.
Beyond these added responsibilities, Amber continued to prioritize the well-being of her own student-athletes at Mardela. She made sure every winter athlete received the preseason evaluations, care, and clearance needed to start the season healthy and prepared. Amber’s deep knowledge, confident presence, and her unwavering commitment to student safety make her an invaluable member of our athletics program. She consistently goes above and beyond her job description, and her contributions have a meaningful impact on students, coaches, and our entire WCPS athletic community. Amber is highly deserving of the WCPS Extra Mile Award
DAWN MITCHELL - Community School Coordinator - Salisbury Middle School
Ms. Mitchell established and now manages an on-campus food pantry and food pick-up where families can regularly access fresh and canned goods. She has written and won grants to provide necessities for students and families.
In addition to providing food for families, Ms. Mitchell implemented an ongoing winter coat, hat, and glove drive to keep students warm as temperatures drop and re-established a community mentoring program for students.
On Saturday, November 15th, Ms. Mitchell TEAMED WITH Salisbury Middle Pupil Personnel Worker Tamika Taylor and put together a large food pantry distribution and provided access to free hot showers for SMS families, and Ms. Mitchell cooked a hot spaghetti lunch. Over 50 people enjoyed the hot takeaway meal, and more than 30 SMS families received food assistance. For all of this, Dawn Mitchell is an Extra Mile recipient for November.
